Three Levels of Government
There are three levels of Government in Australia. Each level provides different services to people:
Local Government.
Local Governments service the needs of local communities. Some of the services provided by local councils cover: Drains and footpaths, rubbish collection, building and permits, street signs and traffic controls, rate collection, animal control, local sporting grounds.
Local Councils in the electorate of Barton include:
Rockdale City Council
Kogarah Municipal Council
Hurstville City Council
Canterbury Council
State Government
State Governments make laws relevant to their State. Some State Governments responsibilities include: Hospitals, Housing, Schools, Transport, Community Services, Motor vehicle registration, forestry, police, fire brigade and ambulance, roads.
State MPs in the electorate of Barton are:

Federal Government
The Federal Parliament makes laws for all Australians. Some services for which the Federal Government are responsible include: Employment, Pensions and family support, Immigration, Passports, Income and company taxes, Imports and exports, Defence, Airports and air safety, Control of television, radio and internet, Post and telecommunications.
