Minister for Emergency Management, Robert McClelland MP, today announced the federal Labor Government will provide natural disaster assistance to help communities within the Southern Queensland region affected by the recent heavy rains and flooding.

Mr McClelland said assistance will be provided to the Queensland Government through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.

Mr McClelland said Balonne and Goondiwindi councils will receive assistance to cover the cost of restoring public assets damaged by recent flooding that occurred in November and December.

“These payments are jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments and administered through the Queensland Government agencies,” Mr McClelland said.

“Funding for this event further demonstrates the Commonwealth and Queensland governments’ commitment to helping councils and communities restore essential public infrastructure damaged by natural disasters as quickly as possible,” Mr McClelland said.

“The Commonwealth Government will continue to work closely with the Queensland Government to ensure affected councils have the support they need,” said Mr McClelland.
